Other Uses for Adventuring Gear
I was looking at the Adventuring Gear list from OSE and decided that I'd like to try and come up with 4 different ways to use these objects than usually expected.
Backpack:
- Strangle someone with the straps.
- Blind someone with it.
- Fill it with something heavy and swing it.
- Fill it with snakes and gift it to an enemy.
Crowbar:
- Feed it to a Rust Monster.
- Remove rocks in mines.
- Hit someone with it.
- Throw it at something.
Garlic:
- Cold remedy
- Reduce blood pressure
- Stink up your breath
- Boost flavour
Grappling hook:
- Hook someone to something.
- Use it to set off traps.
- Grab something underwater or far away.
- Pull down a chandelier
Hammer:
- Knock imposingly upon a door
- Remove nails
- Fix a bent blade
- Break through ice
Holy Symbol:
- Intentionally cause offence
- Start arguments
- Open particular doors
- Repel the dead... maybe?
Holy Water:
- Baptise someone
- Cleanse evil from an object
- Consecrate the ground
- Quench thirst in an emergency
Iron Spikes:
- Pin something or someone stuck
- Stab a vampire
- Carve a message
- Heat it in fire
Lantern:
- Check the wind direction
- Heat something up
- Signal to someone
- Conceal contraband
Mirror:
- Look behind you
- Start a fire with sunlight
- Confuse animals
- Scry through
Oil Flask:
- Dip arrows in it
- Soak a rope
- Add fuel to a fire
- Make something smell bad
Pole, 10':
- Leverage
- Sound for hollowness
- Hold something up
- Vault
Rations:
- Offer as a gift
- Get something to follow
- Make a distraction
- Poison them
Rope:
- Strangle someone
- Tie someone up
- Use to make traps
- Add safety to a dangerous task
Sack:
- Use as Peasant fashion
- Fill it with rats
- Catch something in a river
- Dismiss an employee
Stakes and Mallet:
- See Hammer and/or Iron Spikes
Thieves' tools:
- Clean out fingernails
- Dislodge a bogey
- Scrape out earwax
- Remove stuck food in teeth
Tinder box:
- Signal sparks
- Claim magic to idiots
- Distract something
- Very briefly light an area
Torches:
- Toast Marshmallows
- Make a door handle hot
- Light another torch
- Scare something away
Waterskin:
- Fill it with poison
- Don't get it mixed up with the other one
- Quench thirst
- Kill the entire party by mistake
Wine:
- Intensify flavours in a dish
- Stain something
- Bribe someone
- Smash the bottle
Wolfsbane:
- Add as an ingredient in cooking
- Rub on inflamed area for brief pain relief
- Can be smoked with Tobacco
- Garnish a drink
